A Day on the Bog in Lisdoonvarna
After the "Beat on the Peat" spectacular in 1994 we thought it couldn't get better...but it has! 1996 saw the "Beat on the Peat" spectacular move to the home of fun and craic, Lisdoonvarna in County Clare.This video brings to you the atmosphere and music from one of the most enjoyable open air events ever held in Ireland. Recorded at the "Beat on the Peat "Festival in Lisdoonvarna on the August Bank Holiday, it captures for your pleasure a mix of music and nostalgia like you've never seen before.
Witness the traditional skill of cutting and harvesting the turf, the farmers thresh the sheaves with the old fashioned threshing machine and watch as the culinary delights of traditional Irish Boxty, Colcannon and home made butter are prepared. See the Irish Set Dancers and hear the traditional session outside the authentic thatched cottage or sing along with Shoe the Donkey as you watch the Blacksmith Plying his trade.
One of the highlights of the event was the match making skills of Willie Daly which are captured close up on this video. All of this plus a lot more great music from top Irish Bands including Declan Nerney, Mick Flavin, Brendan Shine, Seamus Moore, Philomena Begley, Tom Healy , P.J.Murrihy and Seamus Shannon.
